Scrabolpoly

I've been thinking of playing a cross between Scrabble and Monopoly (Scrabopoly). The game would be constructed on the architecture of the traditional Monopoly board game with Scrabble added as a tie in to add dimensions to the game (as if there aren't enough already). I've read reviews on previous attempts, however, they seem to rate poorly. What's more is that these games were usually based on the Scrabble board. I leave the forum open to thoughts on rules and on how to convince my friends to play (I've been trying for years).

  2. I like your idea of using the Monopoly board as a base and building upon it with Scrabble largely because it gives the illusion that the game is progressing quicker (i.e. you don't have to wait too long for your turn) and because it is a concept that has not received much attention - so kudos for putting it out there! Might I also add that we also use the action cards in Monopoly Deal to spice up the competition.

The rules will take some time to come together but here are some ideas based on the amalgamation of Monopoly, Scrabble and Monopoly Deal:
    (a) Each set of 10 points = $100 (to be cashed in at every 10 point interval)

    (b) However those points may be saved until one reaches 30 points upon which they will have the power to engage in a forced deal, 40 points - sly deal, 100 points - deal breaker, 100 points - just say no, 200 points - wild card and so on

    (c) Alternatively, those points can also be used to get out of jail (eg. 50 points) or they can be traded for property/money

    (d) every alternate round, the player has to choose between playing on the Scrabble or the Monopoly board (eg. the player cannot play on both boards in every odd round)

I have a heap of other thoughts running through my head - but let me know what you think so far!

  3. Not sure if you've seen this yet: https://www.amazon.com/Winning-Moves-Games-1250-Monopoly/dp/B0C5S343NP

My wife and I bought that as a gift and thought the better name would have been Scrabopoly. Looks like everyone was behind a decade on the idea :D Happy New Year!
